You often hear wine drinkers complaining that French wine is too expensive, and while this may be true when it comes to regions such as Bordeaux or Burgundy, the southern part of the country produces perhaps the best values of the wine world.
Very often, when you pick up a bottle of southern French wine with an incredible rating and a very reasonable price tag, turn that bottle around and you’re likely to see the name Eric Solomon on the label.
Legendary importer Eric Solomon founded European Cellars in 1989 and has been bringing stellar wines from Spain and France into the US ever since.
While his portfolio now represents over one hundred producers, one of the most recent standouts is Domaine Lafage, located in the hills of the Roussillon region.
Only in his thirties, Jean-Marc Lafage already has fifteen years experience making world-class wine, and over the past several vintages he’s made a name for himself as one of the finest young winemakers in France.
Lafage sources grapes from very specific sites scattered throughout the Roussillon region, giving him the opportunity to take advantage of many different terroirs and micro-climates.
From crisp, floral whites, to hedonistic, stylish reds, Lafage expresses his talents through a handful of stunning wines.
Noted wine critic Robert Parker has always been a fan of Solomon’s wines, and the wines of Domaine Lafage are no exception, he states “I struggle to think of another portfolio that encompasses anywhere close to this level of value.”
Parker backs up his excitement for Lafage with some absolutely incredible ratings!
Marketview Liquor has been a supporter of the Lafage wines for several years, and we continue to add new wines as they become available to us.
We’re excited to turn our customers on to this rising star of a winemaker, and we hope that you’ll be just as excited to discover the wines of Domaine Lafage as we are!
